<ST_Xstring> (String With Encoded Characters)

This simple type specifies that its contents will contain a string. Any character in the string may be encoded by use of a \ followed by the hexadecimal representation of the Unicode code points.

This simple type's contents are a restriction of the XML Schema string datatype.
